I've been coaching casually for more then 10 years, this included friends and family with video games. I got more serious into coaching in early 2020 where i coached Apex exclusively through Fiverr. My highest rank in Apex is Master, this was achieved through Solo Queue, a lot of my ranked play in Apex was through solo Queue.

How would you describe your coaching style and methodology when helping players improve in Apex Legends?
Stephen, Apex legends coach

My coaching style is quite flexible to suit the needs of customers. In general, i take a "goal-oriented" approach, where i look to discuss and set goals with the customer and coach them into an action plan to get to the goal(s).

Goals can be measurable, like get to Diamond or get a 3k damage badge for example, or more subjective like win more gunfights / 1v1s.

Once goal(s) have been identified, i look to set an action plan. Steps / routines to practice, things to avoid, things to do more often, etc. Through these action plans, customer have something they walk away with and can continue to monitor on their own. Then follow-up session will look to monitor these goals through the action plan and provide feedback against it all and adjust where needed.

In the end, where a customer knows what they want (goals) or coming in with more of an open mind, setting goals and an associated action plan is my methodology.
3
How do you tailor your coaching sessions to meet individual players' specific needs and gameplay styles?

Each of my sessions / relationships are tailored to set goals along with an associated action plan. Determining goals and relevant action items is my special sauce. In general, i start by having a thorough discussion with customer to understand their history in FPS, why they love Apex, what brings them joy from Apex.

Then we getting into the firing range and i assess the skills of the players from gunfights, movement, inventory mgmt, etc.

This all gives me a baseline to then set a goal and action plan based on the customers skill, needs (if they know) all paired to their preferred style of gameplay.

Are there specific legends you specialize in coaching for, and how does this specialization benefit your coaching?
Stephen, Apex legends coach
StephenApex legends coach 4 months ago Contact
I don't have specific legends i specialize in, but i do have a preference for both mobility legends and "aggressive gunfighting" legends as these are the legends i enjoy to play and have more hours in this style of gameplay in my personal experience.

I love and have been following competitive Apex (ALGS) since day 1, i personally love ImperialHal and his style. But following competitive apex, the meta, rotations, everything really provides me with a perspective at the top-level apex which i'm able to dilute and share with my Customers.
5
How beneficial do you find coaching tutorials, and are there any specific ones you'd recommend?
Stephen, Apex legends coach
StephenApex legends coach 4 months ago Contact
Only for very new players, there is so much baseline knowledge needed for Apex that i recommend basic tutorial videos for newcomers.

I find for players who have at least 50-100 hours on Apex don't benefit to much from tutorial videos, in many cases their flaws are based on behavior's / habits, lack of aim or familiarity with FPS, etc.

What techniques or tools do you use to review and provide feedback on a player's in-game performance?
Stephen, Apex legends coach

I do review pre-recorded gameplay through any means; twitch, youtube, video files, etc. I like to do voiceover and sometimes edit over these clips and provide them back to my customers.

I do prefer full games or longer clips to really analysis and provide thorough feedback - sometimes i get clips which are like 30s - 90s, basically just a gunfight and it's hard to give full feedback as even minutes before a gunfight can determine or lead to an advantage.

I much prefer doing "live sessions" as in, i play with the customer and follow them in game and provide feedback - the intense moments tell me so much and being able to provide instant feedback tends to stick better with Customers.
7
What strategies do you use to improve team cohesion and communication during gameplay?
Stephen, Apex legends coach
StephenApex legends coach 4 months ago Contact
I love having sessions with Teams much more then a single person, i find the challenge and the dynamic a lot more interesting in which i find the balance of chemistry and individual contribution. I tend to take the IGL (in-game leader) role when i play personally, i've always been a leader type of person and very vocal.

So when i coach a team, i typically look first at the IGL player and ensure they're playing their role correctly and more importantly communicating properly. I then look at the other roles: Fragger and the Anchor and see if they are playing their respective roles correctly and communicating correctly.

Then its a matter of replacing one of the team members and showing them live how the role "should" be played and what kind of calls/comms thee role "should" be vocalizing.

But of course, when team dynamic comes into play - there is the social notion and the chemistry between players that i hep build/fix/tighten to ensure everyone is in thier best mindset outside the game too.

Stephen, Apex legends coach

My top advice for new players is Time... put the time in, be patient with time to see results. Consistency is a close second in terms of top advice.

Be consistent with something and give it time, whether that be a specific gun, legend, map, ability, etc. Building consistent muscle memory, consistent environments and most importantly consistent mindset / perspective is essential to build a solid foundation.
